Blacklight

In 2024, I (Jamin) was experimenting with writing with other musicians in my area to see what we could come up with. Blacklight was a song that I co-wrote with my friend Kyle Kleckner who plays in the band Twisted Chrome.

There are as many unique writing styles as there are unique human beings and it’s really fun to see where that leads you. Kyle’s guitar solo is super fun, kinda an old school rock feel to it.

Lyrically, Blacklight came from a place of frustration. We as artists try to modify our personality to try to fit in one group or another, but no matter how hard you try to censor yourself, the truth of who you are, good and bad will always shine through. Blacklight is about seeing what can not be seen in the regular light, because if you shine a blacklight on it, it becomes visible.

We took that a step further for the music video where we filmed the band playing on a stage in black clothes and regular light, and halfway into the song, we switch to white clothes under blacklight to signify that we aren’t trying to hide anything.

Every part of making this song has been a blast and I am so excited to share it with the world!

City

When I was 24, I moved from Iowa to Nebraska. I was dealing with depression and feeling
overwhelmed by life; so, I didn’t make many friends, right away. Every night, I would stay up late in my basement bedroom and write songs, riffs, and beats until the morning hours. City came as a culmination of working on the grindstone as a way to avoid dealing with my emotional and social problems.

‘Wide awake while the city sleeps, we make dreams reality,’ became the anthem of my desire to create songs that inspired and reach people who may have been dealing with loneliness, depression, and insomnia, like me. It isn’t meant to be a sad song to illicit pity but a tune of encouragement. Keep on working and believing and we will get through this together.

Indecision

This song is about looking back at my life and times when I felt uncertain about decisions I needed to make.  There was a definite sense of what later was deemed “FOMO.”  In a day and age where there are so many opportunities available to us, it can feel overwhelming.  Yet in the midst of the intense feelings  the “unknown” raises to the surface, is also the hope that there is deeper purpose and meaning to life.  I think this song will resonate with others who have found themselves faced with similar circumstances.  It may also be an opportunity for reflection, as it was for me.

Everything I wanted

Everything I Wanted, is a song dealing with the feelings of a breakup with someone I thought was the love of my life. There was a painful brain fog that was difficult to navigate. It fits our album theme: No Regrets; because you shouldn’t regret chasing someone or something even if it doesn’t work out. Because it’s what you wanted at the time. And past losses make up a part of who you are.

Can’t Stop Time

In the second verse, I remember being younger and looking through the glass of a window out at the world and wishing time would speed up to the part where I was outside my home having fun with my friends. But time marches on: you can’t stop it, speed it up, or rewind it.

Can’t Stop Time is the first of several songs for an upcoming EP about regrets. This is important because every one of us is dealing with anxiety, pressure, and regret. Songs about real emotions are a good way to deal with the hard parts of life.

62 Years

“62 years” is the story of the real life love of Jamin’s grandparents, Paul and Beverly Sue. We wrote this song about them and recorded in the style of 50s rock influenced by barbershop quartets and doowop ballads because that is the music they grew up with. When Paul and Beverly Sue passed away in 2022, we wanted to immortalize their love by releasing an official recorded version of their song to keep the memory of their selfless love alive forever. We had an absolute blast recording these vintage melodies.
